Interview with RPM - Retro PlayStation Magazine

Our latest interview - and first published in print! - is now available!

RPM is a retro magazine focusing on PlayStation’s legacy and is curated by Sandeep Rai, who goes by 2 Old 4 Gaming. He has released 5 issues so far, and the 6th is available to preorder April 29th on Kickstarter!

In addition to that, he’s put out a number of beautiful books centered around PlayStation consoles, and he also offers instruction manuals for popular games on his Etsy!

We were honored to be included in the latest issue, with a gorgeous spread to boot!

In this this issue, Robin (CGO), Todd (CTO), and Bill (CEO) talk to Sandeep about everything from Implicit Conversions’ origin story, technical challenges with emulation, and designing our own engine, to games the team would like to work on and why they love the work.

Selfishly, I have a lot of pride seeing this interview finally released - it was the first one I set up after starting with Implicit! In fact, this week marks one year since we sat down with Sandeep! It took us a while to get there, but it’s so wonderful to hold it in my hands now.

More importantly, a lot has happened in just the last year. In that time we’ve:

  • Helped bring 35 games back to modern consoles, including our first game as publisher - Micro Mages

  • Made significant headway on the development of Pancake, Syrup’s PS1 emulator for modern platforms (including Nintendo Switch!)

  • Started work on an SDK for Syrup

  • Released our roadmap

  • Opened a call for investors

  • Developed partnerships with a number of studios

And on top of that, we’ve grown a vibrant community in our Discord server, and are just 4 members shy of 1k!

We’re really excited for everything that is to come, and also looking forward to all of the new things we might be able to share with Sandeep in a future issue! 👀

On a personal note, I’m so impressed with the quality of Sandeep’s work. I also picked up one of his books, PlayStation: A Visual History, and it is a really beautiful love letter to PlayStation’s legacy and impact on the industry. He is clearly someone with a deep respect and love for gaming, and that radiates through the care and attention to detail he puts into his work.

I highly recommend checking his store out or following him on YouTube or Twitter to see what he does next!
