Our Vision
We want to make an archive of all human-made video games that are playable in both their classic and adapted forms.
Our Mission
Empower developers, studios, and publishers to easily port their back-catalog of classic/retro games to modern consoles.
Our Values
Default is Trust
Open agendas, transparent objectives, we assume everyone is smart.
Being private is the exception, default is open. Turning things private is only useful for avoiding mistakes and ensuring security from external partners.
When trust is broken, we need to talk about it. That’s the clear path for effective communication. If expectations are not met, frustrations will inevitably build up.
This value also includes Work/Life Balance, we don’t care how people get their work done, at night, in their bed, in pajamas, in the shower, on the weekend, during the day, their head upside down. All that matters is the work output and that you are available for asynchronous communication.
Gamers First
Gamers and fans are our true customers. Fans have been waiting patiently for their beloved games to be available again. They know those games inside and out, and know what they want. When we are torn between what a publisher wants and what we believe gamers want, we must prioritize the gamers.
Similarly, if we have to make a tradeoff between engineers' convenience and the product for the gamers, we will choose what is best for the gamers, even if that means more work. This approach will ultimately benefit us in the long term.
Shared Direction Over Coordination
As a remote and geographically distributed workforce, we cannot afford to wait on others to get things done. However, we cannot afford to work on the wrong things either, as that would be a waste of time. We need to agree on where we are going and what we are trying to accomplish. The shared direction needs to be embraced by all members.
Our organization needs to match our expertise and our customers. We will organize work according to what makes us more engineering efficient as the resulting software will be designed similar to our organization.
By keeping the appropriate structures, we don’t have to coordinate, we can focus on the direction instead.
Perfection is the Enemy of Progress
First make it work, then make it right. As long as we keep moving forward, we will eventually find a way. Indecisiveness can harm company culture, so we must keep pushing forward. We make small steps while keeping in track the long vision. The small steps must prevent us from rushing and making mistakes.
If we are faced with two solutions, we should use the one that avoids creating technical debt. However, we must also avoid over-engineering and consider the current use cases before designing a complex system. Well-designed systems are easy to extend and do not require over-engineering.
Autistic Spectrum & Disability Friendly
We value neurodiversity and the unique contributions it brings to our company. Our goal is to create a supportive environment for all, especially those on the autistic spectrum. We encourage individuals to self-identify disabilities if they choose and emphasize autism training and support.
Additionally, we collaborate with organizations that assist autistic individuals in academic and employment success to promote diversity and inclusion in our workplace.
